When to see a podiatrist

Podiatrists are medically trained health professionals who specialises in the assessment, diagnosis & management of foot, ankle & lower leg pain & injury

We are experts in the anatomy & function of the foot & ankle. At MH Sports Podiatry our podiatrist specialises in musculoskeletal & sports podiatry, focussing on the muscles, tendons, ligaments & bone & how movement & load can influence injury & recovery

As a clinical biomechanist our podiatrist provides highly detailed gait analysis for assessing hip, knee, lower leg, ankle & foot function relaing to injury or performance

How can a Sports Podiatrist help?

A Sports Podiatrist assesses & analyses the structure, alignment, strength & joint mobility & how the foot & lower limb functions during gait.

We can then determine any biomechanical mechanisms that may be contributing to an injury. By assessing & analysing the way the foot & lower limb functions, the forces or ‘load’ acting on lower limb structures & if relevant, any current or prior injuries, a sports podiatrist can provide effectuive treatment, including footwear advice to help you recovery from njury & reach your goals.

These goals can be related to an injury, such as rehabilitation back to pre injury levels or performance focused like beating your personal best running time.

Our sports podiatrist typically sees sub-acute or chronic, longer-term lower extremity pain that has occurred without a particular incident. Such as regular running injuries or persistent heel pain when walking. It is these gradual onsets or overuse injuries that haven’t resolved as expected, that a sports podiatrist’s knowledge is best placed to deal with these injuries.
