Our VALD Sports Screening service provides an objective assessment of strength, movement quality, force production and physical capacity to help identify areas that may influence performance, injury risk and rehabilitation progression. Using industry-leading VALD technology, we assess key lower-limb qualities including plantar-flexor strength, hip and knee force production, jump performance, reactive strength, landing mechanics and left-to-right asymmetry. This allows us to build a detailed profile of how an athlete produces and absorbs force during sport-specific movement and identify whether any deficits or compensatory strategies may be limiting performance or increasing tissue stress.

The screening process is designed for runners, football players and athletes involved in field and team sports where strength, power, efficiency and resilience are critical to performance. Testing can include force plate analysis, countermovement jump testing, repeated hop assessments, reactive strength index (RSI), rate of force development and isolated strength testing for key muscle groups around the foot, ankle, knee and hip. By comparing results between limbs and against normative performance data where appropriate, we can identify meaningful asymmetries, reduced power output, poor landing control or insufficient tissue capacity that may contribute to recurrent injury, inefficient movement or reduced athletic performance.

Our VALD Sports Screening service is valuable both for healthy athletes wanting to optimise performance and for individuals returning from injury who require objective benchmarking before progressing training or competition exposure. The data collected helps guide rehabilitation, strength and conditioning, return-to-run planning and long-term performance development through measurable, evidence-informed decision making. By integrating clinical expertise with objective performance testing, we can deliver highly individualised recommendations focused on improving movement efficiency, force production, resilience and overall athletic performance.

  • Objective assessment of strength, power, landing mechanics and movement asymmetry using industry-leading VALD technology
  • Identify physical deficits and compensatory patterns that may contribute to injury risk, reduced efficiency or performance limitation
  • Support return-to-run planning and performance optimisation, with objective data to guide progression and reduce re-injury risk
  • Monitor progress over time, using repeat testing to confirm improvements in movement efficiency, load tolerance and readiness to return to full training
  • Provide clear, evidence-based education to help runners, football players and athletes understand their movement patterns and make confident training decisions

Benefits of VALD Sports Screening

Runners

Football Players

Football Players

VALD Sports Screening helps runners understand how they produce and absorb force during running-specific movement. Through objective assessment of calf strength, reactive strength, jump performance, landing mechanics and lower-limb asymmetry, we can identify deficits that may contribute to reduced running efficiency, overload injuries or recurrent pain. The information gained can help guide rehabilitation, return-to-run planning, strength and conditioning and long-term performance development. .

Football places high demands on acceleration, deceleration, sprinting, cutting and repeated high-intensity movement. Our VALD Sports Screening service objectively assesses lower-limb strength, power, landing control and asymmetry to identify areas that may influence performance or injury risk. This allows training and rehabilitation strategies to be more precisely targeted towards improving resilience, movement efficiency and athletic performance on the pitch.

General Performance and Injury Screening

General Performance and Injury Screening

For athletes involved in rugby, hockey, basketball and other field or court-based sports, VALD testing provides detailed insight into physical capacity and movement quality. Assessments can help identify deficits in force production, reactive strength, power and neuromuscular control that may impact performance or increase injury risk during high-speed and multidirectional activity. Objective testing also provides measurable benchmarks to support rehabilitation and return-to-play progression.

General Performance and Injury Screening

VALD Sports Screening is suitable for active individuals and athletes wanting a clearer understanding of their physical strengths and limitations. By objectively assessing movement quality, strength and asymmetry, we can identify compensatory strategies, monitor progression over time and provide evidence-informed recommendations for rehabilitation, injury prevention and performance optimisation. This data-driven approach supports more individualised decision making and long-term physical development.

FAQs

Do I need to be an athlete?
No. We help anyone who wants to recover from injury, move without pain and perform better in daily life or sport.

Do you assess suitability for running shoes? Yes, 3D gait analysis explores shoe categories including cushioned vs stability, carbon-plated racing models, minimalist footwear, providing objective data needed to make the right choices.

How long until I recover from pain or improve performance? Pain often improves within weeks when load drivers are addressed. Performance changes depend on your starting point and adherence. We will outline milestones and re-test dates.

Can I bring previous scans or reports?
Absolutely. They help us integrate your history and focus testing where it matters.

What is your cancellation policy? We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Missed appointments or cancellations received with less than 24 hours' notice will incur the full consultation fee.

What should I bring? For any assessment, please bring your primary sports footwear, any relevant custom orthoses and shorts/clothing that allow clear viewing of your lower limb.
