Individually designed devices to help improve load distribution, reduce excessive tissue stress and support more efficient movement during walking, running and sport. Using biomechanical assessment and plantar pressure analysis, orthoses are tailored to the individual’s symptoms, movement patterns and activity demands to support both injury management and long-term function.
Custom foot orthoses are designed using biomechanical assessment and dynamic Footscan plantar pressure analysis to ensure interventions are tailored to how the foot functions during walking and running.
Using advanced 3D printing technology to create highly individualised devices designed around the person’s movement patterns, loading characteristics and activity demands.
Foot orthoses are combined with rehabilitation, gait analysis and footwear advice to help reduce excessive tissue stress, improve movement efficiency and support long-term injury management and function.
At MH Sports Podiatry, custom foot orthoses are prescribed using dynamic movement and loading assessment rather than static foot shape alone. Through advanced Footscan plantar pressure analysis and biomechanical assessment, we evaluate how forces move through the foot during walking and running to identify areas of excessive pressure, inefficient loading and altered movement strategies that may contribute to pain or overload. This allows orthotic intervention to be more targeted, clinically meaningful and specific to the individual’s movement demands.
Pressure analysis provides detailed information regarding centre of pressure progression, loading symmetry, forefoot and rearfoot pressure distribution, contact timing and propulsion mechanics. These findings are interpreted alongside clinical examination, gait analysis and strength assessment to better understand how foot mechanics interact with the rest of the lower limb. In many cases, excessive tissue stress is influenced not simply by foot posture, but by the interaction between movement strategy, strength capacity, mobility and activity demands.
We use PHITS 3D printed orthoses to create highly individualised devices designed from dynamic movement and pressure data collected during gait. Orthoses may be used to help redistribute excessive tissue stress, improve pressure distribution and support movement efficiency during walking, running and sport. They can be beneficial in the management of conditions such as plantar heel pain, Achilles tendon overload, forefoot pain, plantar plate pathology, stress-related injuries and movement-related lower-limb pain where temporary load modification may assist recovery and rehabilitation.
Orthoses are rarely used in isolation and are instead integrated within a broader rehabilitation and management strategy that may include footwear modification, strength development, movement retraining and progressive loading. The aim is not simply to “correct” foot posture, but to improve load tolerance, reduce excessive tissue stress and help individuals move more comfortably and efficiently during daily life, exercise and sport.
Do I need to be an athlete?
No. We help anyone who wants to recover from injury, move without pain and perform better in daily life or sport.
Do you assess suitability for running shoes? Yes, 3D gait analysis explores shoe categories including cushioned vs stability, carbon-plated racing models, minimalist footwear, providing objective data needed to make the right choices.
How long until I recover from pain or improve performance? Pain often improves within weeks when load drivers are addressed. Performance changes depend on your starting point and adherence. We will outline milestones and re-test dates.
Can I bring previous scans or reports?
Absolutely. They help us integrate your history and focus testing where it matters.
What is your cancellation policy? We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Missed appointments or cancellations received with less than 24 hours' notice will incur the full consultation fee.
What should I bring? For any assessment, please bring your primary sports footwear, any relevant custom orthoses and shorts/clothing that allow clear viewing of your lower limb.
